Investing in good quality garments and leathergoods is something we all understand is important - we invest wisely once, or badly again and again. But however good the product is, we still need to treat it well. After all, a Ferrari is a beautifully made car, but we wouldn't expect one to last a lifetime if were to t

My lifelong passion has been architecture – the way in which thoughtfully designed spaces can enable and enrich our daily lives. In particular the way in which architects can interweave considerations of functionality, efficiency, longevity, materials and context, with aspirations to playfulness, spiritual uplift or so

Foxology is on tour with my great friend and intrepid travelling designer and blogger Alice, from 'Alice & Co.' and her 'Wear2WearIt' blog. She has been sporting Foxology merino on her latest trip to the Antarctic. Strutting amongst the penguins and seals, Alice took with her a merino base layer which she says was a life-saver in the freezing temperatures! She has also been spotted wearing a grey jacquard jumper whilst on spending a few days in pursuit of more penguins on the Falkland Islands. We have just launched womenswear - it has been a long time coming, but this is slow fashion! The process started several months ago, and although its been a labour of love it has been quite long-winded, in the summer we spent several days drawing rough ideas, followed up by several more days sewing calico samples and l

We were now much more confident about the designs but we still didn't have any fabric, we were both very keen to make sure that the fabric was sourced in the UK and were possible made in the UK.... there were a few reasons for this not least the wish to use sustainable sources and also to support home industry through

As The Open Championship comes to a close, and with a great showing from Mr Spieth, we thought it was high time we discussed our iconic Golfer jacket, so we got the team together and flicked through our design archives. The iconic Grenfell Golfer jacket, or the Golfing Jumper (despite having a central zipper) as it was originally known, was first developed in the early 1930's for the purpose of golfing in less than idyllic conditions. It featured an elasticated hem and two lower front patch pockets. The Golfer as worn by Sir Thomas Henry Cotton. During the early 1940's, Grenfell dispensed with the patch pockets and replaced them with two angled flap pockets. They also removed the hem ribbing and added two side waist adjuster straps with metal sliders. The crucial element to the Golfer jacket's design is, of course, the use of Grenfell Cloth. Weatherproof, silent and hard-wearing are the three critical qualities. Effective at keeping the club swinger at the right temperature come rain or shine - breathable and natural. When much of modern golf attire lacks elegance and effortless style... Grenfell excels, better than par for the course! The beauty of this garment perhaps lies in its simplicity. There are no superfluous features to dislike or to date it. It features an easy-fitting raglan sleeve for freedom of movement with gusseted cuffs, and two buttoning positions which allow for heavy or light knitwear to be worn underneath. The front pockets are gently angled and wide enough for easy access. Whilst the flap and button stops rain getting in, or items falling out. The side strap and slide adjuster not only allows for a flattering waist contour, but also traps air for improved insulation when tightened. The collar can be worn up and buttoned for further wind protection. The double runner zip allows ventilation and an easier stride around the hip. The Golfer has traditionally had a lining, made from a complimentary shade of our house check, in a warm textured twill weave cotton. As they say,

We choose the company that we keep very carefully, as any gent should. Since it’searly days on the New King’s Road in the 80’s, Hackett has been on our radar andin our wardrobes. Latterly, re-creating for those gaps that the inherited andvintage pieces couldn’t plug, everyone, needs a sprinkling of newness and Jeremy& Co. deliver. Jeremy Hackett undoubtedly sold a few bits of vintage Grenfell back in the day.Grenfell pieces always stand out; due to the unique optic of the Grenfell cloth, awonderful vintage sheen and drape, with unique styles and construction details.Inspired by our detailed archives, Jeremy selected inspiration in the form of theGrenfell Harrington style (we made the first all-weather golfing jackets, includingfor the Prince of Wales in 1932) and the Grenfell Pea Coat (reflecting the fact thatGrenfell cloth was originally created for use onboard ships and snow sledges). Using his eye for details, line and cut, Jeremy has perfected these two ‘new’pieces and lined them with a favourite camouflage for maximum sartorial utility! Our partners over the years that Grenfell Cloth has clothed include Burberry,Eddie Bauer and Abercrombie & Fitch. We will continue to look for inspiring new partners, until then please enjoy this Great British collaboration project.

This biannual festival of clothing is a gathering of the good, the bad and the ugly from the clothing and fashion worlds. Pitti Immagine Uomo encompasses a broad spectrum - from the bland wannabe casual lifestyle brands, up to those that do genuinely have a fascinating take on true craft and fashion design. It is a trade show, so purely for those who work in the ‘rag trade’, and their tenuous entourages. It has endured many decades here, mainly because some wise bod decided to locate it in a Fortezza in Florence, Italy and nobody ever tires of visiting urban Tuscany. It is a show, and that’s exactly what people do….they show. They show their wares, but most importantly they ‘show off themselves’, and their personal style with all of its’ semantic detailing. Captured in a vintage denim wash, a double-buckle monk shoe - one buckle consciously left undone, or a particularly beautiful cocktail cuff. Most importantly, the objective is to meet with like-minded people and discuss details that excite us (oh and, of course, to sell to other like-minded stores and people around the world). It’s what all sub-cultures do, and this is no different. What there is, is a huge amount of passion and a fair amount of talent. You can’t, however, help playing the game of whether the wandering peacock is actually a worthy muse …or just a clown. As always it depends on which beholder is doing the viewing. Until January…

We often sell aprons in pairs…his and hers, hers and hers, his and his! How romantic to share a passion or time spent cooking your favourite meal together. Or what a fantastic gift as a wedding present. Our aprons are also perfect for traditional wedding anniversary gifts: - 2 years - Cotton is an interwoven material that reflects how marriage brings a couple closer together. This material is also flexible but strong and symbolises that, after two years of marriage, the couple have adapted to each other and become stronger for it. - 3 years – Leather for its durable, flexible and warming properties. These characteristics are said to represent this stage of marriage, symbolising the strength and safety married couples give to each other. Here is daughter Amber and son-in-law Patrick at a photo call we did at Tanner’s Wine Cellar in Shrewsbury. So cute!
