Britain: Top Wool Nation

Maybe it’s because we’ve been into wool for at least six thousand years? Or maybe it’s because whilst pretty much everyone else on the planet switched to trying to make the cheapest clothes they could, we stuck to trying to make the best ones. Whatever the reason, British knitwear is (in my considered opinion) the be

No more anxiety or surprise baggage check in fees.

Made in Britain: Why Provenance Still Matters in Clothing

If you buy country clothing for function (wet days, long walks, yard jobs, shoot days, the lorry park, the river bank), provenance isn’t a fluffy “heritage” add-on. It’s one of the clearest indicators of quality, durability, repairability, and honesty. I’ll keep this grounded in the world I actually build for: British

The 1940s, Churchill and the Cloth That Saved Lives

The 1940s were a defining decade for Britain. Under the leadership of Winston Churchill, the nation mobilised its factories, mills, research institutes, and workers in a collective effort to withstand the pressures of war. Why Does Wool Keep You So Warm In The Winter?

Why Does Wool Keep You So Warm In The Winter?

When temperatures drop and frost sparkles on the ground, few things feel as comforting as pulling on a warm layer of wool. But that cozy feeling comes from more than softness—wool is a remarkably advanced natural material.  Its fibres act like tiny coil springs, creating millions of microscopic air pockets that trap warm air close to your body. These pockets insulate you much like the padding in a winter coat, yet still allow air to circulate so you stay warm without overheating. Wool also excels at regulating temperature. As your body warms and produces moisture vapour, the fibres absorb it and release small amounts of heat, keeping you dry and comfortable instead of clammy. This built-in climate control means wool adapts to your activity level as well as the weather around you. One of wool’s most impressive qualities is that it continues to insulate even when damp. The fibres can hold a surprising amount of moisture without feeling wet, so if you’re caught in drizzle or brushing through snow, wool still works hard to keep you warm. Its natural breathability also helps reduce odour, since moisture doesn’t sit on the surface of the fabric. Beyond comfort, wool is a renewable, biodegradable fibre with excellent durability, making it a long-lasting and environmentally friendly choice for winter wear. It’s a perfect example of how nature often creates the best technology—quietly effective, brilliantly engineered, and suited to a wide range of conditions. Oldfield Outfitters embraces these qualities with a beautifully curated range of wool knitwear and traditional Fair Isle pieces for men and women. Each garment is designed to keep you warm, comfortable, and stylish all winter long. Turnbull & Asser Welcomes Roberto Menichetti

Turnbull & Asser Welcomes Roberto Menichetti

Turnbull & Asser is delighted to announce the formal appointment of Roberto Menichetti as Creative Director. Over the past 18 months, Roberto has guided the house’s creative direction, which is already reflected in our ready-to-wear collections. He now assumes responsibility for the entire creative concept, including bespoke shirting, tailoring, outerwear and accessories. Roberto also conceived and designed the expansion of our flagship store into 69 Jermyn Street, which opened last year, showcasing his vision for the house in both design and space. A CONSIDERED APPOINTMENT For 140 years, Turnbull & Asser has been defined by craft, proportion, and an unhurried approach to making. Roberto Menichetti has brought the same ethos over the past 18 months, guiding ready-to-wear and shaping the aesthetic of the house with clarity and essential form. Born in the United States and raised in Italy, Menichetti trained in Paris with Claude Montana before joining Gruppo GFT and later Jil Sander, where he established a reputation for pure, minimalist lines and launched the house’s menswear collection. His tenure at Burberry saw a careful rejuvenation of a storied British marque; his stewardship modernised an icon and set a course for sustained growth. Across a distinguished international career – from Céline to Ballantyne, from consulting commissions to his own atelier – Menichetti has made a practice of distilling clothing to its most honest expression.   CRAFT, COLLABORATION AND CONTINUITY Roberto will continue to guide the visual and sartorial language of the house, working with our craftsmen to refine fabrics, bespoke tailoring techniques, and considered innovations that respect the longevity of each garment. This appointment formalises a collaboration that has been shaping the house’s creative output for over a year. “Roberto’s appointment reflects our ambition to bring fresh energy to our wardrobe while remaining true to the craftsmanship that has defined Turnbull & Asser for over a century. His proven ability to modernise heritage houses while respecting their DNA makes him the perfect partner as we look to the future. That future continues to be shaped by the skill of our artisans in London and Gloucester and by our enduring belief in ‘Made in England’. We are confident that Roberto’s international experience and proven creative leadership will ensure the continued success and growth of our house.” – James Fayed, Chairman of Turnbull & Asser “Turnbull & Asser represents more than a brand; it is a living expression of British style and elegance, carefully built over generations. It is remarkable that the house has preserved its identity so faithfully and is untouched by passing trends, carrying it forward to the present day with care and dedication under James and his family. To be entrusted with its creative future is both an honour and a responsibility. My philosophy has always been to seek the essence of form – clarity, proportion and timelessness – rather than the noise of passing trends. At Turnbull & Asser, this philosophy meets a heritage of craftsmanship that is second to none. My vision is to uphold and protect this tradition while introducing quiet innovations that ensure its voice continues to resonate with discerning clients around the world.” – Roberto Menichetti, Creative Director of Turnbull & Asser   LOOKING AHEAD Roberto’s appointment marks the opening of a new chapter – one that will be written with the same careful hand that has guided Turnbull & Asser since 1885.  We invite you to follow this story and to join us as the house continues its work: rooted in craft, attention to detail, and resolved in its belief that good clothes are made to last. A Parisian Love Story

Jean-Dominique Luciani is a boot man. “I probably have a dozen pairs, maybe more.” Crockett & Jones’s Director of Operations for Paris wears them everywhere. “To work, to events, to the French countryside, to the Swiss Alps.” This summer, Luciani even wore a pair of high-leg Islays on safari in South Africa. “I spend summer in a pair of Harvard or Richmond loafers, which I love, but winter is my time to shine.”
