Scottish Textiles Showcase is an independent British clothing brand founded in May 2019 at the Tron Kirk. The brand is led by Kitty, who serves as Founder Director and designer of their Harris Tweed scarf collection. Kitty has long championed Made in Scotland products and is passionate about sharing her love of textiles with customers, encouraging sustainable shopping and consideration of carbon footprint. She also enjoys connecting with overseas visitors by practising her Italian, French, and Spanish.
The team at Scottish Textiles Showcase brings together a diverse group of creative individuals, each with their own unique background and expertise. Ellen, who studied printed & dyed textiles at Glasgow School of Art, creates a range of printed silk scarves available in store. Her designs are inspired by her experiences living and travelling, from the Isle of Mull in the Inner Hebrides to Kyoto, Japan, where she spent a term studying.
Kayleigh specialised in printed textile design at Heriot Watt University and is responsible for making the brand’s own label tweed bags and purses, which are sewn in house using tweed remnants. She commutes to work by train from the Scottish Borders with her dog Squid, who has become a beloved shop dog and a favourite among customers.
Flora, who specialised in knit design at Glasgow School of Art, focuses on British wool and designs and knits a range of accessories and garments, including her popular tie vests and scarves, all available in store. Susan, editor of The Journal of Scottish Yarns, shares the team’s passion for promoting Scottish textiles and telling the stories of mills and makers. With a background in financial services and a lifelong curiosity about knitting, Susan enjoys discussing topics such as why Scotland is famous for cashmere.
Julie specialised in weaving and knitting at Rhode Island School of Design and previously worked collaboratively with Lila’s Mountain Farm, a sheep and flower farm in Massachusetts. When not on a farm or in the store, she can be found weaving on her 100-year-old loom.
Mary, the brand’s bookkeeper and an Economics and Accounting graduate from Edinburgh University, has worked with Scottish Textiles Showcase since its opening in May 2019. She is known for her meticulous attention to detail and her ability to resolve any numerical challenges that arise.
The shop is also home to a friendly group of dogs: Willow, Squid, and Toto. Kitty’s dog Willow had nine pups in December 2022, and Kayleigh is the proud owner of Squid, while Kitty keeps Toto. Visitors are often greeted by at least one of these dogs, making the shop a welcoming and warm place to visit.
