Colhay’s was founded by Ronnie Chiu as a tribute to the values passed down from his father and grandfather, who believed in investing in a few high-quality, well-crafted items and caring for them so they would last a lifetime. Growing up in British colonial Hong Kong, both men regarded British-made clothing—such as Scottish knitwear, Northampton shoes, and Savile Row tailoring—as the benchmark of quality. They maintained and preserved their belongings meticulously, a discipline shaped by limited means and the belief that “because they were poor, they couldn’t afford to buy cheap.”
Ronnie inherited several of their garments, including his grandfather’s tie and his father’s Scottish knitwear, which remain in excellent condition decades later. He contrasts this tradition with today’s disposable consumer culture, where durability and craftsmanship are often sacrificed for speed and low cost.
Colhay’s aims to revive long-lasting, heritage-quality clothing by partnering with skilled makers who maintain exceptionally high standards. The brand seeks to reconnect customers with the craftsmanship behind each garment, highlighting the materials, processes, and artisans involved. Ronnie’s goal is to restore the satisfaction of owning well-made items that endure and become meaningful personal possessions.
