Rach X was founded by Rachel Pedder, a designer who left her graphic design career in London in 2015 to spend ten months in an artist’s residency in Porto, Portugal. There, she developed her aesthetic using a blend of traditional and modern techniques, inspired by her surroundings. When she returned to the UK, Rachel transitioned into product and pattern design. In 2020, she launched her first clothing collection—even without prior textile experience—by spending months working out the production process. The clothes are handmade in the UK, by teams in the North East of England and Birmingham, supported by a network of suppliers, pattern cutters, mentors, and creatives. At Rach X, sustainability and longevity are core values. The brand makes versatile, responsibly-sourced garments in vegan materials, with a 10-year after-care guarantee and free guidance to help customers extend the life of their clothes. The collection is inclusive in sizing and encourages creative styling, with the goal of making pieces that people can wear, pass down, and cherish.
