Chapman was founded in 1984 by John Chapman, a former designer for Barbour. The brand was established in Carlisle, Cumbria, in the north-west of England, and initially focused on producing bags and accessories for country pursuits. Chapman quickly gained a reputation for its high-quality, durable products, which were made using traditional materials such as canvas and leather. In the early years, the brand supplied bags to retailers including Harrods, and its customer base expanded to include a variety of outdoor enthusiasts and travellers. Today, Chapman remains based in Cumbria and continues to handcraft its products in its own factory. The range has expanded to include backpacks, holdalls, and accessories for men and women, all of which are designed to withstand the rigours of daily life.
