Blackshore is a distinctive British clothing brand that celebrates the spirit and heritage of the UK’s coastline. Their story began in 2017 on the harbour of Southwold, a coastal town in Suffolk, where part of the harbour is known as The Blackshore—a place historically associated with the unloading of coal, which left its mark on the muddy banks. This evocative location inspired the brand’s name and identity, anchoring their ethos in the rich history and character of Britain’s coastal regions.
All Blackshore garments are made and sourced in Britain, reflecting a deep commitment to local craftsmanship and quality. Their collection includes smocks, aprons, jackets, dungarees, hats, shirts, and trousers, many of which are handmade in their own workshop. Originally based in Southwold, the brand’s shop and workshop relocated to Holt in North Norfolk in October 2023, with a more recent move to their new workshop in Rackheath.
Drawing inspiration from fishermen, offshore and round-the-world yachtsmen, boat builders, and the diverse communities along Britain’s coasts, Blackshore creates clothing that embodies a traditional workwear aesthetic. Their designs are shaped by personal adventures along the Suffolk and Norfolk coastlines, as well as further afield, resulting in a range that is both timeless and gender neutral, suitable for people of all ages.
Blackshore stands out for its dedication to sustainability and longevity. They offer a lifetime visible repair guarantee, ensuring that each piece can be cherished and worn for many seasons. Their social consciousness extends to every aspect of the business, from supporting the regeneration of British apparel making to using fully recyclable, FSC-approved packaging made in Britain.
Defined by a love for the British coastline and a passion for handmade, sustainable clothing, Blackshore garments are crafted to stand the test of time, much like the places that inspire them.
